I think a St. Pete is probably doing music more of a service at the bottom of some body of water than being used as a concert instrument. Thats some food for thought!? If concert goers can enjoy the sound of a tuba, can't a tuba player get the same endorphinic feeling while putting a tuba as far as he/she can throw? I think the syndrome may be because of the ol' "Whats the range of a tuba" gag we all laughed at in middle school when telling jokes about your instrument was cool. I belive this sport (if you will) is not just some sort of primative cave-man type thing, but an attempt to answer the question/set up so the joke doesnt vary. some days, I said 20 yards, others 50 feet, it just didn't add up.
