Bingo! As I recall, Klaus, the 7B already has a somewhat radically tapered backbore because the throat bore isn't all that big, relatively speaking. That's precisely why I'm advising Tracy to perhaps look into having the throat bored open very, very slightly first, before digging into the backbore. I did this on my Helleberg "Chief" because it already has a huge backbore, but also a fairly small throat. I use that one for making as fat of low notes as I can possibly make in a 20 piece Oktoberfest band I play in. The director wants the tubas in the lower octave only. Again, I also think that this is what Floyd Cooley has done with his own Helleberg line.
