Sorry I didn't reply to this earlier. I had the honor of sitting next to Gene this past season for Ameriques - on two seperate weeks. The first was for the CSO's "Mahler and Modernism in America" series - a three-week festival at the start of the season where they coupled Mahler works with contemporary American ones (Ameriques was written in the USA).
THEN, I did it during a regular subscription series. Barenboim conducted both times and wasn't recorded - although, originally - it was supposed to be.
So - I don't know who played 2nd. When I talk to Gene, I'll ask him.
