Annoyed,

I have a new MW2145 also. The pistons were clean and lightning fast when I received the horn, but within three days they got very sluggish. I removed the pistons and the bottom caps, cleaned the black stuff off the pistons and swabbed out the valve casings, then oiled everything with a standard valve oil (Al Cass or Bach or B&S or whatever it was). Without repeating this routine each week, black sooty-looking deposits would soon build up and slow the pistons. After a month or so of this cleaning routine, the piston valves stayed clean and fast. The initial break in requires frequent cleaning and patience.

I love the MW2145, by the way. For mouthpieces on this horn, I alternate between using a PT 50 and a Melton 25AW. In terms of tone color, I wish I could find a mouthpiece that is intermediate between the huge darkness of the PT 50 and the brighter sound of the 25AW. Anyone have suggestions?
