Your only mistake was in telling the director it was a CC tuba. Would he have known if you hadn't told him? When I was in college another tuba player a year older than me played all the band rehearsals on a BBb tuba and then played the concerts on his CC. At football games he used an Eb so he could ride to the stadium on a scooter with his girl friend holding the horn. Eventually I inherited his position as tubist in the New Haven Symphony, where I played for ten years on a smallish BBb tuba. Nobody except the bass trombonist ever knew that it wasn't a CC tuba.
