The big King you're referring to was an old 1270 (if 3 valves) or 1271 (if 4 valves) Giant Sousaphone. They had a .750 bore (larger than the 20K's .734 bore and the 1250's .687 bore) and a 28" bell (vs 26" for the 20K, and 24" or 26" for the 1250) and were King's biggest sousaphones. They were (and are) rather rare. Our local high school band director owns one and it's a good horn.

The brass Kings (whether the old 1250 (3valves)/1251 (4valves) or the newer 2350) are good horns. I prefer the Conn 20K or the (extremely rare) 24K (4 valves) or the old Conn Sousaphone Grand (same horn with long valves) 38K (3 valves) or 40K (4 valves)
