Alone what you have told here is interesting insofar, that it might explain, why my 40K has a 24" bell and not the 26" that are standard for present day BBb’s. Not that I miss the 2".

I am not as suspicious about the 3rd partial intonation, as is Joe S. Maybe the combination with the opened up PT-50 is a quite happy one. I like the combination of a large mouthpiece on a medium to large instrument (we are hardly speaking BAT here). Physically demanding. Needs much attention about articulation. But puts the player in command of intonation, sound, and dynamics. One has not to play really loud to be heard as a fullbodied foundation of the tutti sound.

My York Master has a larger bore (.750), but in comparison with the 40K it is my "elegant" BBn. But only in that comparison.
