The chance of someone doing what Pat Sheridan has done is pretty low. You have to imagine that there are a lot of music schools in this country. There are a lot of very talented tuba players graduating from these institutions each year. A small percentage of these people do nothing but practice. If you think that you are talented enough to compete with these people without working as hard as they do, good luck. I don't want to sound too harsh, but this is a brutal business. If you aren't prepared to give up everything for a little while, you aren't prepared to win an orchestral audition.
