Yes, I have played the 5/4 Hirsbrunner you refer to. And I agree with you, it is the best of the rotary Hirsbrunners, in my opinion. Still, of all those I played over the years at Custom (probably around 10-15) they all had that same problem in the low Ab-G area. What is really creepy to me is that every Hirsbrunner tuba I ever played (all makes, even a couple Yorkbrunners) had this same problem. That was when I realized that these tubas were not for me. There must be something in the combination for me that just doesn't work. Of course, that HB-2P was just a dream to play and it has always made me wonder why. I guess every horn made by a manufacturer isn't identical after all.
