Guys, the very best thing to dissolve tape adhesives is plain old lighter fluid, naptha, like used in a Zippo. This will dissolve virtually all tape adhesives, whether its fresh and sticky or old and hard. Sometimes you'll have to soak the tape/glue for a few minutes but it works very well for this purpose.
I'm also pretty certain that it will not damage any tuba finish. Another nice feature is that it evaporates completely, leaving nothing behind.
