I find it suprising that the CSO would release a recording where one of the microphones was actually "blown out". Wouldn't the tuba sound a bit weak for the rest of the recording or can you hear the technicians replacing the mic while the orchestra continues to play?

As for playing too loud, you can play too loud. You can also play too soft. You can also carry an attitude that, no matter how well (or loud) you play, may cost you from ever getting that job. For me, two years with "imcompetent morons" would be enough. Perhaps it is time to move on to a school that can actually challenge and develop your incredible loudness or perhaps forgo the two more years of eligibility in your "area's finest youth orchestra" (how many youth orchestra's are in your area?!)and go pro. Maybe Boston will pick you up in the 2nd or 3rd round!

My .02 cents

Michael "I hear ya loud-and-clear" G.
