I'm kinda like everyone else. Started playing in the 7th grade. This was in the 60's. My best friend also played the tuba. We lived a half mile from the jr high school and we carried a big ol' Conn back and forth from school almost every day. The thing was so heavy we hung it from the cealing beams with rope so we could play it. I kept at it and went to college on a music scholarship and was a performance major in college for a few years before I got my degree in Finance. I sold my 186 after college and a few years later bought another horn. I play in several community bands, theater in the parks, small ensymbals, and a 15 man "big band". Along the way I picked up the string bass and electric bass. I met my wife while on tour playing in an orchestra. She was a viola player. I guess you can say the tuba has had a big effect on my life.
