Absolutely. I would say that Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is more about Quality as a metaphysical entity than it is about metaphysics per se. You don't have to believe in Zen Buddhism, or even agree with it, to gain much from the book (I'm a Christian, not a Buddhist, but I still recommend the book). It describes a state of mind committed to approaching an activity--any activity--with a sense of quality rather than with a sense of chaos and carelessness. Master that concept, and, for example, practice sessions will be much more productive and focused. But mastering it may take you the rest of your life, and it may require help from sources Pirsig didn't contemplate.
