Like Tony, I have played the ballet several hundred times; it has a good tuba part and is fun to play. I played it mostly on a Mirafone 184 CC which I found to be a very good pit horn. The part lies very well for CC tuba, probably a medium size is best. As Tony noted, it's easy to overwhelm the low strings, particularly in a fairly small pit orchestra with your bell pointing out!
