I actually learned without the straw, glass of water, bubbles.

I just tried it into the horn straight away -- for me that was better, because you have to be vibrating your lips, and the sound guides you as to whether or not you are getting close to it! That method appealed to my sense of logic and worked quickly for me.

Firstly, you need to be able to allow your cheeks to "flop out" into a puffed position while playing a long note. Stick to middle reg and moderate volume (mp, say). Sometimes just that skill takes a bit of getting used to.

Essentially the essence is co-ordinating the "sniff" breath through the nose with the momentary brief glottal-cut-off (sealing back of throat), and squeezing out of the cheek-air. I find I do involve my abs (diaphragm, whatever) to smooth the whole thing out a bit.

An archive search here will provide plenty more (mostly peripheral) threads on Circular Breathing...

but for many more detailed "tutorials" I recommend searching the net (or elsewhere) for didgeridoo literature.

All the best! It's fun, and occasionaly actually handy!

Eve
