Great ideas. Should also add that few of the cello suites offer a playable range as written if one is playing a C or Bb tuba.
Robert King's edition for the C or Bb tuba leaves a number of movements out. And of those he includes, he
often takes it down a perfect 6th. At least once he takes it down a full octave. But he tries to be consistent within each suite.
So, for example, if he takes the Sarabande a 6th down in the first suite, he'll take a 6th down in the Gigue of the same suite.
One question I had was whether it is kosher to play only part of a suite. I'm thinking especially of Suite I, Prelude
(the first movement of all). It's a beautiful piece and has a perfect stopping point about half way through, before
it's gets out of range, at least for a C or Bb tuba. What do you think?
