I asked Bob Rusk about this and he said something to the effect of "Oh, that old myth again?" The last time anyone saw the York mandrels, according to Bob, was when Harvey Phillips saw a bunch of tuba mandrels in a grease pit in Grand Rapids. B&M, suggests Bob, just used the equipment they had to make a horn looking something like the products previously made in G.R.
