I bought one of those $20 mouthpiece tools from Brasswind recently. You know, the ones that fix any mouthpiece "from french horn to tuba" with a simple twist. YEAH, RIGHT. The problem is, when trying to fix large shank trombone/euphonium mouthpieces or tuba mouthpieces, the end of the tool gets stuck in the throat before you get it in the shank far enough to fix the end of the shank "with a twist." I did have some pretty good success working the tool in a circular motion just inside the shank and tapping lightly with a hammer. I don't regret buying the tool, but it does NOT work as easily as advertised.

The french horn mouthpiece thing works as well -- you could actually buy a cheap horn mouthpiece for that same $20 and use it to fix your shanks. It probably wouldn't last as long, though. :-)
