Hey Alex, welcome to the wonderful world of the tuba! For some very basic advice on starting out, check out the "Tips for Tubists" page on my website. Then try to play through the warm up on my "Daily Routine" page, and maybe try some of the exercises at the bottom of the page too, if you feel up to it.
It's very important, especially when beginning, to have an idea of what a good tuba should sound like, and to strive to sound like that when you play. If the other tuba player in the band is pretty good, listen to them and try to sound the same. Better yet, listen to recordings of professional tuba players, or go to concerts if possible, so you can hear what the instrument is capable of in the hands of a master.
Lastly, ask lots of questions, because the folks here at the BBS are very knowledgeable and always helpful!
Good luck and have fun,
MF
