Practice single-tounguing it without your tuba when you are driving an automobile, watching television, etc. Triple tounguing it just wont "do", unless it is a survival situation, like Jay mentioned.
That part, although on a lot of auditions, is greatly over-rated. There are tons of unison instruments, including bassoons, trombones, etc. The principal trombone can bury you on the upward scale to the Bb, if he wants to, as he has it in unison with you. However, most tuba players DO play this line louder than the principal trombone, because the principal trombone doesn't think of it as anything special - so they just "play it" instead of trying to be the Soloist of the Orchestra (ala the tubaist) there.
For an authentic ophicliede sound, stick a 6 1/2 AL trombone mouthpiece into the neck of a baritone saxophone and play this Symphony.
