Matt- What effect will adding cylindrical tubing to the main TS (i.e., after the valveset)have? It will change response and sound, I assume, but will intonation be affected? In other words, although shorter Mpipe-longer TS will CHANGE the horn, will it HURT it? Also, if a 5th valve were inserted here, there's even more cylindrical tubing after the valves. Possibly these changes could be "reversed" by your custom-made mouthpipe? resulting in a horn with similar characteristics to the original setup?

Maybe it's not so important because the taper on longer horns (BBb' and CC's) is not so drastic at this point, but on the American Eb's like the pre-valve-TS Conn's, there's a rapid increase in diameter right after the valves. I'm curious, because I'd like to see how it is switching these uprights to front-actions, which, as you know, frequently requires fabricating a TS after the valves.

See you next time I have room on my credit cards!!
