First and foremost, the audition tape must be as polished as possible. Both the music and the recording quality must be just about ready to roll out to the presses and burned onto a commercially distributed CD.

I am not speaking on behalf of the US Army Band or SGM Tilbury, but can speak from what their past requests, recommendations were.

Here are some ideas posted here before.

I would recommend putting on a dazzling performance of an attention grabbing solo to begin the tape followed by some wowwing band excerpts.

When the tape is "done" in your opinion, play it back for a bunch of different people to get feedback. If you are not proud enough of the professional quality of the tape to let others hear it, then a military band audition panel won't want to hear it either.

Give yourself plenty of time to prepare the tape. Don't start recording one week before the Oct 1 due date. Start recording as soon as possible to allow plenty of time for self evaluation and preparation. A big mistake people make for all auditions, taped and live, is waiting too long to begin preparations.

When the more formal announcement comes out there will be more info. In the past they wanted an audition tape with music of your choosing and a one page resume.
