I've played everything from a Rudy 5/4, my Yorkbrunner, down to a Yamaha F 621. I think the choice of instrument depends on repertoire played and the type of equiptment played by the other guys in the group. For Baroque stuff, I prefer the smaller gear, or bass trbn. When we did Bb minor Ewald, we did it on all conical instruments (cornets, wagner tuba, euph) and I played my 'brunner. It was WAAAY cool, but I had to really lighten up and approach the B.A.T. like I was playing a 184. For a regular school show, one-horn type of gig, I play the 184. If we are doing a full recital, I'll bring a whole boatload of horns which might include 2 F's, 2 CC's, a bs trb and a euph. Let the repertoire and your own musical sense dictate what horn to play in chamber ensembles. Good Luck. Tony Clements
