I toured the Bach factory in 1987 and at that time they were making tubas which were made from the old OLDS tooling they purchased when OLDS went under. I do not know how long they made these. They actually made the tubas in their factory. They were not "farmed out." I actually saw a man assemblying one with my own eyes! I believe the tubas they now make are Yamahas as many of you have mentioned.
I met a man at a tubaschristmas a few years ago who had a beautiful silverplated Bach tuba. It was identical to the OLDS that I had at my school where I taught at the time. They are small 4/4 horns or large 3/4 horns however you want to look at it. They are larger than the little Yamaha 103/105. About the same size as the 3/4 King 1151(?). Fine horns for students, but nothing to write home about (or email home!).
