I really can't agree with you about the Meinl Weston 2000. I happen to own one and have used it successfully since last December in large and small concert halls, with concert bands, orchestras, brass ensembles and for solos. It is one of the finest handcrafted instruments I have ever played in my 40+ year career.
I did have two modifications made to mine. I had Matt install his Adjustable Gap Receiver, which opened up the horn tremendously, and I had Meinl Weston construct a longer main tuning slide for it to better play at A=440 without having the tuning slide fall out.
