I remember most of the Music Ed students at my school,
in fact most of the Ed students in general (most, not ALL)
could be described as people who'd say something like,
"I don't know what to do with my life, I guess I'll teach."
The problem here is getting worked up about what
to do for work for the rest of one's life that (often)
we lose track of life along the way...and then discover
that we don't have what we'd want...what was given up along the way!

Similar thinking leads to conclusions like "a performance degree is useless"
i.e. "limited opportunity to get a job." SO WHAT ?!?!?!? College is (in my opinion) good for so much more than vocational applications that it just grieves me to hear "well respected educators" saying crap like "a performance degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on." Try telling that to my friend the loan officer (for example) who got a performance degree at Northwestern.

Going to college so you can get a job is like going to Paris so you can stay in a hotel.
