I think your idea of adding an EEb is good. I play in a small (max 30) community band and we have two basses. I play a Conn 26K EEb sousaphone and my compatriot plays a King Cleveland BBb. Our repertoire is not exceptionally demanding, but a lot of it does have a divisi in the bass part. I, personally, think it sounds better with the divisi played. Also, we have had members of our (all too small) audience comment on how they never really heard the bass line before and were pleasantly surprised to hear and enjoy the bass as part of the ensemble.

So, feedback that has come my way indicates that the BBb/EEb pairing makes a more euphonious (pun intended) sound.

Play well and enjoy,
jlb
