Surely, the air is just whistling through the holes in the centers of your bottom caps, the holes in the bottoms of the pistons, or both. Couldn't you just dampen that noise with some devices - little bits of foam rubber (which would discourage the whistling, but still allow air to pass through), etc. (?)
