I've owned my 521 for about 8 years and IMHO it's an excellent horn.
I've gone through the same torture of playing it and found that if I
turn my hand out (as if you were to raise your index finger from the first
valve and keep your pinky on the fourth valve it makes it easier to play. I
have the same problem with the Yorkbrunner. If you don;t turn your hand out
slightly, when you go to a 2/4 combination you tend to push the third valve
down slightly without knowing it. It feels different at first but you
eventually get used to it. It also helps improve the circulation a bit, keeping
your hand from tightening up.

Just my experience.
