I had a helicon made by Slater about 1875 mine was also a tenor with string action rotary valves. Moses Slater began pushing the sales of helicons during the war between the states as an alternative to over-the-shoulder horns. I'm told helicons were made allthe way up to soprano but omly the alto down went around went over the left shoulder.
