1st valve works for me on this tuba/mp combo. Do you have the most recent 181? On the newest ones the 1st valve slide is about the same width as the 5th and 6th slides. If the 1st valve slide is pretty wide then this is an older mfg. and G tends to be flatter. The newer ones G is good and the ist valve slide is longer allowing the Bb/A (mid staff) to be pulled into tune. Mine is an older one (2yrs) but G is unusally good as well as 3rd partial with the RM9/8mm.
