I have heard that the Mirafone horns have nice brass, but the King 2341 I sampled at the last Tubachristmas was much heavier than my Mirafone 186, a similar horn to the MW. The sound was great, the response was great and it made me think that perhaps I spent too much on my Mirafone. The only horn I have ever played which I can say is "hands down" better than the King was a Hirsbrunner, and the sound wasn't all that different. (the hirsbrunner just practically played itself) The King, however, was the older style horn with the detachable bell. Perhaps the old horns have thicker brass. I don't think this holds true for the mirafones, as I have played an old Mirafone 186 which was quite light. Regardless of which horn you choose, play both. If you're happy with the tonal characteristics of both horns, do us all a favor and buy American. That is my advice.
