part of the reason why orchestral music on local and national levels
in the States has been tubing it for decades. MIND YOU, "mounting" a Beethoven
cycle every third year to pander to the lil blue-haired donors isn't going to
develop an audience, and its stuff like that taken independently of all
the other variables that seems "heavier." But really, on OUR instrument,
even when the locals are called CONSTANTLY, how deep down the list on most
nights do you have to go? One player? Second-call??

Tough gig, no wonder the people attracted to orchestra "management" as a rule
are sadly lackluster. And as long as labor continues to cling to a "thats the way
it is" style of thinking about things in general, then (among other more important thingsthings) cattle-corral reviews of players (as a rule) will remain
