with all this talk of horns, mouthpieces, and finishes....it's like golf, we all choose different ways of doing the job, others like to long putt, while some like a short chip shot. I think that these topics about equipment should have a final result in mind, how does it sound.

Dark is great, but it is losing the upper overtones. Is cutting out some of the natural sounds, inherent in the acoustical waves of the note, a good thing? I had a conductor that told me I was playing extremely bright, on PT-7P. I had a extra PT-88 around, so I bored it out, and I was still playing too bright. Too bright, on a PT-7P with a bored out PT-88...okay, whatever. I'm not saying that equipment automatically makes you play dark, but it certain equipment will vary slightly. He was confusing the bright/dark issue with focused/unfocused sound. I would caution people about doing the same when listening to themselves and others, when making judgements on others and their equipments.
Not that golf has anything to do with my topic anymore, but whatever...
