I agree. However; regardeless of how obvious the point you made may seem to you 'who' I would only like to say that this is advice that I personally received when I was a sophmore "lookin for a good CC tuba" three years ago.
The point is that this college freshman will receive other advice before he buys his first tuba that may very well conflict with the seemingly sound advice given here. So please: be careful, be objective, and like Pat said, definately wait to do anything before you talk to your soon to be professor- in my opinion.
