I have recently been experimenting with mouthpieces and have possibly come across to dark of a sound. I was playing on the R&S Helleberg II and started to feel that things just weren't right. So I switched back to a Schike Helleberg II and things sound better to me. With some experimentation I found that a mouthpiece with alot of extra brass takes out the high overtones in the sound leaving you with more of the middle and lower overtones. I also found that without those high overtones the blend with the trombones does not work as well. What do you think? I think that the PT-88 and mouthpieces like it might be a bit of over-kill on trombone players and the orchestra.
