As sexy as a horn would look plated in, say, black nickel, I wonder if plating nickel onto thin brass is a good idea. I'd think that eventually the nickel would start flaking.
And as others have mentioned, there is the problem that some folks get contact dermatitus from nickel and the finish will dull.
OTOH, I have an old Besson euph that's about 70 years old done in nickel as well as an old Pan American alto horn done the same way. Both of which have plating in fine condition. But they're both pretty beefy.
Hey, is your shop set up to do PVD? I think a tuba done in gold titanium nitride would be a real eye-catcher...
