First off, for all you non Chicagoans: Demon Dawgs is a hot dog place under the el tracks on Fullerton, near DePaul. DePaul is where the rock group "Chicago" formed in the 60's. Demon Dawgs owner had some kind of relationship with the band and the place is covered with Chicago memprebelia. It's also open early in the morning and closes really late. At times they even have a maitre 'd in a tux. The place is an institution, besides that, it's cheap. It was even on PBS' Hot Dog show. Seems the CTA has given them 120 days to get out of there. They pulled their lease and want to make a larger el station. That's what the fuss is!

As far as a tuba hangout, don't know about that. I brought Floyd Cooley there, yep Floyd at a Chicago hot dog stand - his first and only time, he didn't like their wine list. Every DePaul student goes there including the tuba players. When I'm in the neighborhood at lunch, I'm in there. The next time will be April 29 when I do the traditional DePaul run through of the next Jacobs presentation (Breathing for Wind Instruments). If you're not going to be at the Texas or Arizona regionals, come to DePaul, have a Demon Dawg (with Floyd for the last time) and kick off the latest Jacobs presentation.

I will also be doing the latest Jacobs presentation in August for the National Flute Association at the Riviera in Vegas. Sorry, no Demon Dawgs there but accross the street is Lots-of-Slots, a small casino that has a 1/2 pound hot dog for a buck - this was also on the Hot Dog Show. With Chili, cheese and onions (lots of all), I call it a Belly Buster. Since I'll be the only tuba player at a flute show, I need some bass clef buddies. Not only will I get you in the lecture hall free, I'll buy any tuba player a belly buster afterwards!
