Why not? Consider for a moment, how one of these beasts have to be constructed. You have a piston which contains the cup part of the mouthpiece moving inside of a cylinder. At the shallow setting, the profile is a very shallow, almost triangular cup shape. At the deep setting, it's mostly a straight-walled cylinder with cup shape at the end. So you really get good results only at one setting. Everywhere else it's just "interesting".
