I have doubled sucessfully on tenor trombone and tuba for four years. I play trombone in a brass quintet and also play in the jazz band at my school as lead trombone and one of the soloists. I play both a student model King 606 and a Conn 88-H. My range on trombone is from a double pedal Bb to F two octaves above middle C. I don't think range will suffer if you apply yourself to doubling well. It is hard, and it give me a lot of trouble. My tuba hasn't suffered that much, but I do think that if I wasn't playing trombone as much as I do then I would be a better tuba player. That merely has to do with the attention given to trombone. I like the desicion I made and I wouldn't have made the money I have, if it wasn't for trombone. I say the desicion is really up to you.
