Use whatever horn you're most comfortable with. Different tubas have different strengths and weaknesses, just roll with what you've got. A sousaphone gives you the bell-front projection for outdoors, but if you've been playing mostly C tuba and haven't dusted off your Bb chops for a while, you could be in for more trouble than it's worth when it's time to fake your way through unfamiliar tunes.
