I'm not Eric, but... I play an HB-21, and find that my arm comfortably reaches all slides (except for the fourth) by going under the bow. Most often I rest the horn on the chair (but I am a short person, so...). I do agree that it would be best not to go over the bow because of air restriction. if you can make the reach work by resting the horn on the chair, that seems to work best. If you are really tall (or even moderately so) and find that you do need to rest it in your lap, however, I think Eric's idea about grippy stuff is good.
