I don't like to play "concert" tubas in an outdoor dixieland setting, IMHO. Sousaphones are great, especially Conns and Yamahas, which have great false tones down below. Of course, 4 valve sousies give you more capability. I play my helicon, which I think is perfect for dixieland, indoors or out. Just watch where you swing that thing; I don't know how many heads I've nearly taken off because of the direction of the bell! (pointing outward). Just my .02 cents worth.
