Howdy fellow tubenetters,
I just had my Stewart Stand permanently mounted on my B&H Eb. I used the stand for a few years with the black velcro straps but was never happy with the way it looked or the way it worked. With the straps, the mounts were never lined up completely enough to make it easy to move the peg. The mounts would move a bit torquing the rod and making it almost impossible to adjust the rod. So I took apart the velcro straps and Harvey Hartman mounted the hardware right on the tuba. Now the mounts line up properly and the rod is free to move and adjust easily. This makes it much easier to lower the rod for putting the horn in the case or adjust for different chairs and heights. I wonder why this wouldn't be more commonly done on tubas, similar to the way they use pegs on cellos, basses and bass clarinets, especially for student horns.
If anyone would want to see a picture of it I could email it to them.
