A euphonium player friend and I played both the Miraphone and M-W, comparing them to a compensating Yamaha, a Besson soveriegn and both Besson Prestige models.

The M-W had more intonation problems and not a very good sound in the room we had.

The Miraphone had a much nicer sound and played very easily but we felt the sound didn't have enough core to carry. Pitch was "different" than expected. Very easy to play.

The Yamaha had good pitch but played a little stuffy, as did the Soverirgn which added the typical Besson intonation quirks.

The Prestige (small bell) was quite nice in every regard and, in the room we had, sounded the best. Head and shoulders above the others. The large Prestige didn't sound as clear in the room we were in. I would have liked to try them in a rehearsal hall.

It did make a tremendous difference which mouthpiece was used. The Schilke 52D made the small Prestige sing. Neither of the SM model mouthpieces were as good for us.

The Yamaha would be a nice compromise for price but the Prestige is a very fine euphonium.
