I bought the silent brass system last year. I bought it to make it easier for me to practice at home, so I don't annoy my roommates. The system does block out a majority of your sound to outside listeners. When I play, and my door is closed, you can't hear my sound in the hallway. When playing, it is quite stuffy! Playing the horn with the mute in is just like playing the horn with any other mute in the bell; it doesn't play the same. I do not like the amplifier. The volume does not get loud enough, and there is always a static hiss noise in the background that becomes more prominent if you turn up the volume or resonance. I only use my Silent Brass system on the weekends. When I first play on Monday, my open sound does not sound the same.
Despite its many down sides, I do use my Silent Brass a lot, but I do not recommend it to anyone unless they have no other choice.
