Mirafone was the American spelling when it was in California.
Miraphone is the factory name and real name and after this year I do believe that Mirafone will no longer be on any of their products and no double name anymore and just Miraphone.

There is a difference between the 187 and it is not bore or bell. The 187 is to the 186 like the 188CC is to the 186 CC.

The wrap is tighter and wider and so physically the wrap is lower on the left side than the 186 or right side looking at it.

The big difference is in like the 188, the tubing gets bigger gradually from the end of the main tuning slide all the way to the bell so you get a fuller, darker sound. The last bows and the bell throat are noticeably larger than the same tubing on 186's.

The 187 tubas are very good and won an award for the most improved tuba at Musikmesse I think several years back. If you play one you will like it. It is to BBb what 188's are to CC tubas.

Both are wonderful tubas.

Hope this helped.
