The heat from the soldering process is what will burn your finish. It will turn brown around the solder joints, but aside from the cosmetics, it will not hurt your instrument.

I wouldn't bother having the bottom bow unsoldered unless the dents you have really bother you a lot or are major. Depending on exactly what & where the damage is, dent balls may work well. The dent eraser is another good tool that you could ask your repairman about. It is basically the traditional dent ball system, but it uses magnets.
