The show is a lot of fun. I had the pleasure to finish up the show on Broadway after John Stevens left it for a teaching job in the early '80's. I can't imagine the book is the same as the one we used in NYC. The trumpet books are incredibly demanding. The first 2 players in Barum were lead trumpet players for THe Tito Puente Band and Gerry Mulligan's Band. They were up there often. The tuba book was also very demanding. Circus music can do that.

The best part of the show is the start of the second act when the tuba, actually sousaphone, walked down the aisle playing a little jazz riff that was the beginning to "Come Follow the Band". After 16 bars, one by one the rest of the band follows. It was a gas to be on stage during this whole thing. They even had a tight wire act where the lead, Barnum, had to go from one end of the stage to the other. This was not always flawless.

Have a great time.

STEVE
