Hi from England,
An old Buescher euphonium of 1909 spotted on an auction site caught my
interest. The mouthpipe went into the second valve direct, which in turn was
fitted 180 degrees ( sideways on )with a waterkey.
I have seen early 'enharmonic' Bessons were the leadpipe goes into the third
valve, ( the master valve ? )surely to determin which set of slides is used,
but not the second before.
Does this make any difference ? if so why ?
I would appreciate your comments.

Best wishes, Charley Brighton,
Euphonium, BBC Wind Band London
